Toy Dogs: Toy Manchester Terrier , Miniature Pinscher, Toy Poodle, And Pug

Toy Manchester Terrier

Like his big brother the Manchester Terrier, the Toy kind can trace his bloodline back to the now-extinct Black-and-Tan Terrier, among the oldest British breeds. He is a smaller reproduction of the Standard excluding the ears. Cropped ears, acceptable for the Standard, are disqualifications for the Toy. He bears a long, narrow head, tapering to the nose, having clean-sided cheeks and tight lips. His eyes black and sparkling. His body is short, the legs straight, feet dense and well-arched, the tail tapering to a point. The coat is smooth and glossy.

HEICHT. about 7-9 inches

Miniature Pinscher

Same as the Doberman but on a much smaller scale, the Miniature Pinscher has survived in his native Germany for several hundred years, though the serious growth of the breed began in 1895. He has a terrier's features and instincts for hunting vermin, and is worthy as a watchdog. He is a sturdy and compact small dog having a fearless, lively manner. His head sharpens toward the muzzle; the cheeks, lean and the lips tight. The eyes are dark and quite bright, and the ears stand upright when cropped. His short, shiny coat blankets the body closely.

HEICHT 10-12/2 inches

HEIGHT: under 10 inches

Pug

The Pug came into being centuries ago, perhaps in China. It was brought back Holland by traders, where it was acclaimed to be the official dog of the House of Orange in the 16th century. The breed's fame spread to England and France, where it became a darling of  Empress Josephine and Marie Antionette. The Pug is a wrinkle-faced chunk of a toy, short-backed and round-ribbed, and decidedly square. His stark muzzle is quite short indeed. His dark eyes are huge and worried-looking, while his soft "button" or "rose" ears are like black velvet. His tail is tightly curved over the hip; a double curled-tail is regarded a perfection. The coat is short and glossy.

WEIGHT: 14-18 pounds

HEIGHT: 10-12 inches

COLOR: silver or apricot-fawn, with black mask and trace (line extending from the back of the head to tail); black.
